The Proliferation of Mobile Applications
Mobile content and development have given rise to the proliferation of mobile applications in the mobile business. Mobile developers have existed even before the creation of the iPhone and they were treated as mere enthusiasts or risk takers, but they weren’t getting high compensation for their creations. After the iPhone was released, the demand for mobile applications exploded and other mobile companies followed suit in creating mobile phones with the capabilities of running different kinds of applications. This further supported the demand for applications and content for mobile and therefore introduced more projects and products available for mobile content providers targeting the mobile consumers.
When the demand for mobile applications started, everything went well. Until such time that the mobile application stores are not able to accommodate all the content providers due to the sheer volume as the providers submit that congest the process of testing and verification of the identities of the developers. Not only is this process time consuming, but it also very expensive for the application stores. It takes a content provider 3-6 months just to be able to get into the list of an application store and about two more months to get paid.
With this growing concern in the proliferation of mobile applications, independent applications stores started to join the business of application selling. These independent sellers make online portals where application developers and the end consumers can meet and this made the distribution of the applications significantly faster. Mobile users can subscribe to these portals and get the content instantly and pay online as well. As for the developers, these portals normally offer immediate approval and immediate payment and the waiting time is nothing compared to the application stores of the mobile manufacturers.
Since the applications developers are normally very small business, having a faster way of distributing and selling their applications make the development process of new and innovative applications easier. They have more revenue to fuel their business, hence more applications and creativity put in. And since these applications store do not have their own mobile phone to carry, they tend to carry most of the mobile phones available in the market. This way, all sorts of applications for the different brand and type of mobile phones can all be bought and sold in one portal which further makes the distribution faster.
To this day, more people are setting up their own portal because the market for mobile content and applications are still growing. Eventually, the market would be saturated, but with the fast advancement in technology, there would always be something new that would keep increasing the demand for one product and the other and in this case, the demand for mobile applications.
